STEVEN J. ESCHENBERG
February 27, 1954 - November 20, 2017
Callicoon, NY
Steven J Eschenberg of Callicoon passed away at his home November 20, 2017 surrounded by his family. He was 63.
He was born to Betty Boyd Eschenberg and John on February 27, 1954 in Callicoon. After graduating from Delaware Valley Central School, he enlisted and proudly served in the U.S. Navy. He furthered his education in the U.S. Navy A & C schools, thermodynamic propulsion and refrigeration.
Upon his discharge, he honed his skills specializing in Marine, Industrial and transport refrigeration diagnostics and repair while working for Tomlinson Refrigeration Co. of Elizabeth, NJ. In 1979, he returned to Callicoon to open his own refrigeration contracting business, Eschenberg Temperature Control. He developed projects, completed installation and repairs. His business allowed him to meet many interesting people, and work on diverse projects from the small to large warehouse and supermarket installation. His work was recognized in E360 Outlook. a national air conditioning & refrigeration industry journal.
He enjoyed travel. Starting in the U.S. Navy, he traveled through South and Central America. Years later, with his buddy, Nan, he traveled throughout Europe, including: England, Scotland, Ireland, France, Spain, Germany, Italy, Czech Republic, Hungary, Croatia, Bulgaria, Estonia, Finland, Austria, and Netherlands. He enjoyed meeting new people and learning about other cultures.
He loved representing Santa at the Elks Lodge. He spoke frankly. He worked hard. He laughed heartily. He was loyal. He loved and was loved, deeply. He was never dull. He had his life plan. If one was lucky enough to be included in it, well, it was quite the ride. He lived life fully!
He is survived by the love of his life and wife of 42 years, Nancy Threshman Eschenberg; a son, Alex of Callicoon; a sister, Christine Eschenberg Coan of Cochranville, Pennsylvania; a sister-in-law, Dorothy Threshman Davies of Glen Spey, NY; an uncle, Ray Boyd (Fran) and aunts, Eleanor Huggler and Norma Boyd; several cousins, nieces and nephews.
Special thanks during his illness to some true friends: Peggy and Jeff Sattler, Mike Schroeder, Mike Bachkosky, Pierce Flynn and his cousins, Joanne Newman and John Freeman and without doubt, Uncle Ray.
There will be a private mass service held.
Contribution may be made to Delaware Youth Center, P.O. Box 354, Callicoon, NY; Callicoon Fire Department, P.O. Box 806, Callicoon, NY 12723; Upper Delaware Ambulance Corps, P.O. Box 238, Hankins, NY 12741; or to St. Jude’s Childrens Hospital.
