Stewart-Murphy Funeral Homes Callicoon and Jeffersonville, NY. Family owned and operated. Murphy have been serving the communities of Sullivan County, New York and Wayne County Pennsylvania for nearly 25 years, with caring, professional and compassionate care for families that have lost their loved ones. The Murphy brothers grew up in Newport in Herkimer County, NY. They are graduates of West Canada Valley Central School.
Matthew J. Murphy is a 1980 graduate of Simmons School of Mortuary Science and a 1981 graduate of Herkimer County Community College. He has been a New York State Licensed Funeral Director since 1981. He moved to Sullivan County in 1987 and started work at Stewart Funeral Service, Inc. and purchased the funeral firm in 1990. Matt is a 28-year member and past Chief of the Jeffersonville Fire department and currently serves as Chairman of the Jeffersonville Fire District Board of Fire Commissioners. He and his wife Debra live in Jeffersonville and have three sons Patrick and his wife Regina , Sean and Jacob Murphy. They have twin grandsons Aidan Matthew and Ryan John.
Mark T. Murphy was an electrician by trade before becoming a funeral director. Mark is a 1990 graduate of Simmons School of Mortuary Science. He has been a New York State Licensed Funeral Director since 1991. Mark moved to Sullivan County in 1990 and joined his brother at Stewart Funeral Service, Inc., shortly thereafter the firm name was changed to Stewart-Murphy Funeral Home, Inc. Mark is a U.S. Air Force Veteran, a member of the American Legion, a year member and Past Chief of the Callicoon Fire Department and a former Commissioner of the Callicoon Fire District and President of the Callicoon Cemetery Association. Mark and his wife Kim live in Narrowsburg and have two daughters Ashley and Lindsey Murphy-Owen and her husband Gaston.
