John C. Deck of Jeffersonville, NY, owner of John C. Deck Excavating & Demolition, died Monday, February 29, 2016 at Orange Regional Medical Center, Middletown, NY. He was 82. The son of the late John Frederick and Helena Nearing Deck, he was born March 20, 1933 in Long Eddy, NY.
His grandfather came from Germany and settled in Long Eddy, NY. John was a hardworking man, he was a farmer and  logger, and then he started his own excavating and demolition business. He was loved by all.
John was an avid Civil War re-enactor. He was well known both locally and nationally for his portrayal of Abraham Lincoln; he was very knowledgeable about Civil War history; he loved to recite poetry. The community will miss this "gentle giant".
John is survived by his companion and best friend of nineteen years, Robin Bartelini at home; two daughters, Josephine Litzenbauer and her husband, James of Abramsville, PA, and Caroline Kent Koveleski and her husband, Michael of North Carolina; four grandchildren, Jason, Thomas, Michele and Alexander. He is also survived by his extended family (Robins children), Carl Tuzzolino and his companion, Lisa Bennett, Angelina Tuzzolino and her fiancee, George Pedro; and two grand children, Nicholas & Anthony.
Friends may call on Thursday, March 3, 2016 at Stewart-Murphy Funeral Home, Jeffersonville, NY from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. A  Mas of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, March 4 at St Francis Church in Youngsville, NY at 11 a.m. Burial will follow in the Hortonville Cemetery Hortonville, NY.
In Lieu of flowers donations may be made to St. Francis Church.
Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Stewart-Murphy Funeral Home, Jeffersonville, NY 845-482-4280.
