Linda A. Petlan, was pronounced dead at 12:25 a.m. on Tuesday, February 8, 2022, at the Garnet Health Medical Center in Callicoon, NY. She suffered a heart attack shortly before midnight on February 7 at her home on 67 Viaduct Road in Callicoon. Linda was born to Jaroslav and Linda Vasata on October 21, 1932, in Prague, Czechoslovakia (CZ). She attended a boarding school in England from 1946 to 1948 and emigrated with her family from CZ to London, England in 1948, following the Communist coup in her home country. She came to the United States with her family in 1951, first to Chicago and then to New York, NY in 1952. She married her first husband, Frank Uhlir, in 1953 and had her only child, Paul, in 1954. She divorced Frank in 1961.
Linda worked at Restaurant Vasata, on East 75th Street, NY, NY from the 1950s to 1995. She was a joint proprietor of the restaurant with her second husband, Stan Petlan, during the last 15 years. She married Stan in August 1976 in Callicoon and retired to Callicoon in 1996. Linda enjoyed cooking and gardening, was an avid skier, and was loved by everyone who knew her. She is survived by her son, Paul Uhlir; her sister, Jana Spacek, and nephew, Jan Spacek and his wife, Claudia Williams; and her two cousins, Hana Marsik and Marie Kolar and their families. Linda's funeral service will be held at the Stewart-Murphy Funeral Home in Callicoon, NY at 34 Upper Main Street this Sunday, February 20. The memorial will begin with family visitation from 12:30 to 1:00, followed by a eulogy and spoken remembrances from 1:00 to 2:00 by the funeral participants.
