Kenneth J. Palmer Jr. of Callicoon, New York and Sebring, Florida, a retired machinist and
Harding Brothers Manufacturing Elmira, New York died Wednesday January 13, 2021 at the Vitas Hospice in
Port St. Lucie, Florida.
He was 79. Son of the late Kenneth Sr. and Mary Margaret Palmer, Ken was born in Matamoras,
Pennsylvania on November 11, 1941.
Ken early on lived in Port Jervis, NY but spent most of his youth and adult life up to retirement in Elmira, NY.
His true home was Callicoon, NY where his father purchased a camp in 1960. Ken became very attached to the area
calling it “heaven on earth” spending much of his vacation time there and took up residence after he retired.
Ken made many close friends in Callicoon, NY where he loved to fish, garden, converse with people,
and walk River Road.
He had a great respect for wildlife and considered the animals his friends.
Ken loved going to the Tractor Parade and participated in the River Road race for many years.
Ken had a appreciation and interest for the railroad as his Father and Grandfather worked for the Erie Railroad.
He collected, bought and sold many railroad lanterns over the years.
He was loved by many including the Busharts, Randal, Julie, Kendra and Matthew who considered him family.
Ken attended faithfully as a member of the congregation at the Holy Cross Church in Callicoon and also was a
member of the Knights of Columbus.
Ken is survived by his sister Gloria McLean of Sebring, Florida and his brother Dr. Richard J. Palmer
of Fayetteville, Arkansas.
In addition to his parents, Ken was predeceased by his sister Sylvia Ann Taylor.
