Kathleen Moran Obituary

Kathleen E. Moran, a life long resident of Hortonville NY, died peacefully at home, surrounded by family on Friday February 23, 2024. She was 87 years old.

Kathleen was born on September 23, 1936 in Callicoon, to Herbert and Kathleen Buddenhagen.

She married William Moran on December 9, 1956. The couple settled in Hortonville and built their beloved home of 64 years, where they raised their 4 children. Kathleen graduated in 1956 from Brooklyn Hospital School of Nursing. She dedicated her life to the nursing profession. She began her nursing career at Maimonides Hospital in Liberty, which later became Community General Hospital in Harris NY. She was also the administrator of nursing at the Grover M. Hermann Hospital in Callicoon NY. Kathleen entered the world of education, founding the LPN program at Sullivan County BOCES, and teaching local nurses and nursing assistants there for 23 years. She was always the family nurse on call to fix any family ailments.

Kathleen loved nothing more than her family. She loved her home where she would feed and watch her wide variety of backyard birds. She enjoyed spending time at the family pool with her children, grandchildren, cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends. Her door was always open for a visit. She especially loved hosting Thanksgiving and always made room for one more at the table. She also enjoyed her annual trips to Florida where she made many friends and memories. Kathleen loved when her children and grandchildren would visit in Florida, always taking in a Mets spring training game.

She is survived by her loving husband of 67 years, William Moran; her children, Terri Kuhn (Bob) and Debbie Goldy (Charlie) of Dover NJ, and Megan Eggleton (Dave) of Jeffersonville NY. Her grandchildren Sean, Amanda, Brianna, Riley, & Harper. She is also survived by her siblings Dan Buddenhagen and Virginia Guglielmone, as well as countless cousins, nieces, and nephews. She is predeceased by her son Billy Moran, and siblings Ross Buddenhagen and Mary Etta Hornicek.

Visitation will be held on Thursday February 29, 2024 at Stewart-Murphy Funeral Home 34 Upper Main Street Callicoon from 2-4 PM and 6-8 PM. The funeral mass will be held on Friday March 1, 2024 at St. Georges Church Jeffersonville at 12:30 PM. Burial will follow the mass in Hortonville Cemetery.
