John Maronna Jr. Obituary

It is with great sadness yet peace in the heart we announce the passing of John Anthony Maronna Jr. on Sunday October 7, 2018 at the age of 63 years.John passed peacefully away with family at his side after battling an ongoing neurological illness for many years and a very recent diffuse cancer diagnosis. He was predeceased in life by his father John Anthony Maronna Sr. and mother Marion Helen Maronna. John was survived by his loving wife Fiona, his children Joseph Ramsay, Brittany Leann, and Nicole, his sisters Dawn Sotomayor from Florida and Jacqueline Core from Elba, New York, along with many other nieces, nephews, family, and friends.

John served in the United States Navy from 1972 to 1976. He held the U.S.S. Intrepid close to his heart as he served on it until its decommissioning in 1974 where he then transferred to the U.S.S. Saratoga. John’s service to his country meant a great deal to him, his patriotism was strong.

John will be remembered for his overt sense of humor, loud laugh, warm heart, and big smile.

Family and friends are invited to pay respects and share memories from 4-7 P.M. on Friday October 19th at Stewart Murphy Funeral Home with military honors at 7 P.M.- 34 Upper Main Street, Callicoon, NY 12723. Memorial donations in memory of John may be sent to Gino Merli Veterans Center where he resided for 6 years and received much love from the staff who treated him like family - 401 Penn Ave, Scranton, PA 18503.”
