Gerald "Skip" Mudge

Gerald L. “Skip”  Mudge of Hortonville, NY, passed away peacefully, surrounded by family and loved ones, on, August 29 at 2:25 pm. He was 87 years old. 

Skip was the son of the late Stuart Mudge, Sr. and Sarah Isabelle Mudge, born on February 6, 1935 in Callicoon, NY.

Throughout his life, Skip dedicated himself to many passions and responsibilities, including and not limited to his service to his nation in the US Air Force and the US Army Reserve and his desire to protect others in his role as Fire Chief for the Callicoon Fire Department.

He had a strong sense of community as former chairman of the Republican Party of the Town of Delaware, a profound connection to the visual and auditory arts, and a dutifulness to and alongside his wife Noreen, to their world-wide network of life-long friends, companions, and family.

Skip is survived by many who deeply loved and fondly remember him, including Noreen Mudge, his loving wife for over 65 years, and by his brother Bill Mudge Sr. and his wife Barbara Mudge.

Additionally surviving Skip is Pamela Mudge-Wood, daughter, and her husband Kevin, alongside their son Todd.

Nigel and Caryl Perree, respective son-in-law and daughter, and their children Brandon, Kendal, Imogen, and Morgan.

Jeanette Ferrick, daughter, and her children Harmony Beattie and Autumn Ferrick. Harmony is the wife of Jared Beattie. Surviving alongside them are great-grandchildren Evan and Aiden Beattie.

Cindy Mudge, daughter-in-law and wife to the late David Mudge, and their children Shannon, Andrew, and Monica, who is married to Joshua Godwin.

Gordon Roy, husband to the late Kathy Jo, and their children Joseph and Kaitlyn, wife of Ian Williams.

Bill Kirk, husband of the late Barbara, and their three children, David, Derek, and Michael.

These families who budded from the blooming love between Skip and Noreen are joined in their remembrance alongside several nieces and nephews.

Skip was preceded in death by his mother, Sarah Isabelle Mudge, his father, Stuart Mudge, Sr., his sisters Beverly Porter, Sally Frazier, Doris Peters, and his brother Stuart Mudge, Jr.

Skip was also preceded by three of his children, David Mudge, Barbara Kirk, and Kathy Jo Roy, as well as by son-in-law, Dennis Ferrick, husband to Jeanette.

The wake for Skip will be held at the Stewart-Murphy Funeral Home in Callicoon from 4-7 pm on Monday, September 5, and the Funeral Mass will be presided by Father John Kennedy, and will be held at the Holy Cross Church at 11 am on Tuesday, September 6th. 

There will be a celebration of life for Skip at the Hortonville Fire House Pavilion at 3:30 pm. Family is invited to the Callicoon Cemetery for his burial with military honors following the Mass.
