Eleanore Berner

1933 - 2023

Eleanore Berner passed away peacefully on June 30th. She was a few days shy of 90 years old and tried her best to get there.

Eleanore was a lifelong resident of Sullivan County. She was the daughter of Henry and Berta Kuhner. She grew up on a small farm in the Beechwoods and moved to the Cochecton area in 1957 with her husband Charles, who is pre-deceased.

Eleanore was the last original member of the Cochecton Volunteer Ambulance Corp and was recently honored for her 50+ years of service and participation. She was also a longtime active member of the Auxiliary of Grover Herman Memorial Hospital, Cochecton Ladies Club, and the Red Hat Society.

Eleanore loved her pets, gardening, embroidering and doing puzzles. She was a Mother, Homemaker, Volunteer and for many years, a Unit Secretary at Harris Hospital.

She is survived by her children Anita, Michael and Elaine, her sons-in-law, grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren. She will be greatly missed.

Visitation will be held on Sunday July 2, 2023 from 4 to 7 PM at Stewart-Murphy Funeral home 34 Upper Main Street Callicoon, NY. The funeral service will be held on Monday July 3, 2023 at 11 AM at the funeral home. Burial will be in the East Cochecton Cemetery, Cochecton, NY.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Cochecton Volunteer Ambulance Corps.
