It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Joan Ernst.  Joan entered eternal sleep on October 25, 2018, at home with her family by her side.  She was 72.  Words cannot describe how wonderful she was.
Born Joan Katharine Bernas on February 12, 1946, to her late parents, Ann and John Bernas.  Joan is predeceased by her brothers, John and Michael Bernas.
Joan was a loving wife, wonderful mother, proud grandmother, caring sister, and an educator to all.  A retired special education teacher of 39 years.
She is survived by her best friend of 55 years and husband of 49 years Lanny;  son, Ian and his wife, Jodi' grandsons: Connor and Evan;   son, Jeremy with wife, Crystal, granddaughter, Riley and grandson, Adam.  She is also survived by sister, Karen Bernas, nephews, Johnny, Matthew, and Luke and niece, Morgan with their families who she loved very much and enjoyed the life they shared with her.  
Joan was a staunch supporter of her family and well known throughout the community for her loving nature and caring personality. A constant figure at any of her family's events and activities.  She will be sorely missed by all that knew her.  
There will be a private family ceremony with a Celebration of Joan's Life planned for a later date.  
The family would also like to sincerely thank the staff at CRMC, Sullivan County Public Health and Hospice of Orange and Sullivan Counties for their help, dedication, wisdom and guidance through Joan's battle with cancer.
