James "Mickey" Roche

James "Mickey" Roche passed away quietly at Sullivan County Adult Care Center on August 29,2018. He is survived by his wife of 53 years Linda Jane Decker Roche a native of Livingston Manor, NY. His children: Shawn James Roche of Jersey City, NJ and daughter Kristi Lynn Roche Phillips (James) of Manhattan and his granddaughter Dylan Roche Phillips.
He is also survived by his sister Maureen Roche Knipp of New Windsor, his brother Terrance Roche (Maria) of North Carolina, sister -in-law Marion J. Roche
of Callicoon, and brother-in-law Michael H. Decker (Nuha) of South Plainfield, NJ and by several nieces & nephews, cousins and very dear friends.
He was predeceased by his brother "Rease" Roche, his partner at Roche's Garage and his parents James & Anna Marion Dwyer Roche and his in-laws Ruth & Gilbert Decker of Livingston manor and by his brother-in-law Anthony Knipp.
Mickey was president of Roche's Garage , he and Rease sponsored Roche's softball team for many years and Roche's Bowling league. He was inducted into the Wayne Area Sports Hall of Fame on September 30, 2000. He was a Jeff bank Board of Director for nearly 40 years. His greatest passion was the New York Giants. He never missed a home game in nearly 30 years and had one away game each year. He was well respected by everyone who knew him... If you were his friend … You were always his friend.
Mickey played with the Callicoon Kiwanis Basketball Team traveling to many Pennsylvania locations and around New York for at least 10 years.
He was co-owner of the Callicoon Arden Theater with his partner Warren Doetsch of Middletown, NY, for 23 years until the theater was sold to Barbara & Jim Kayton of Callicoon.
He was a US Army veteran, a member of H. Russell Kenyon Post # 5808 of Callicoon. Mickey was a parishioner of Holy Cross Church and always supported what was happening in the parish.
The family wishes to express their appreciation to Unit 1 at the Sullivan County Adult Care Center , to the Supervising Nurses and Staff for the wonderful care and compassion they showed for the last eight months.
The tracking devices and alarms for Mickey will be retired and all the kisses and hugs have gone to Heaven.
Friends may call on Friday August 31,2018 at Stewart-Murphy Funeral Home Callicoon, NY from 3 to 7 PM . A mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday at 11:00 AM at Holy Cross Church RT 97 Callicoon, NY. Interment will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery Callicoon, NY.
