ANDREW DAVID ANDKJAR
7/15/81 ~ 10/16/19
Born July 15, 1981 to parents Eric and Virginia Andkjar and older sister Amy; Andrew was a bright and inquisitive child and when he grew older, a man of great moral fiber and conviction. Andrew was very compassionate and aware of life’s inequities.
Upon graduating from Delaware Valley Central School, Andrew went on to Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in Troy, NY where he graduated Summa cum laude in 2002 with a BS in Computer Science and a minor in Computational Mathematics. Andrew then went on to pursue a career in computer programming, with interest and hobbies in Computer Graphics, Video Game Design, Artificial Intelligence, Developing and Researching a personal 3D game engine and 3D printing a hydroponics system.
An avid hiker and kayaker, Andrew enjoyed life in the Adirondack’s and spent many good times with friends there. Observing all of nature’s beauty and splendor was one of his great passions in life.
Andrew was predeceased by his maternal grandparents, Paul & Rita Rasmussen, Aunt, Rita Pauline Rasmussen and Uncle, Roy F. Rasmussen. Andrew is survived by his parents, his sister Amy and her husband Matthew Barnes and two nieces Teagan and Lauren Barnes in Charlottesville, VA. Also surviving are his paternal grandparents Helga and Fred Andkjar of Callicoon, NY and his paternal aunt Elise Freda and her husband Joseph Freda of Callicoon. Other survivors include many great aunts and uncles, cousins and friends, too many to count.
A man with a keen wit and dry sense of humor (a trait he shared with his father and grandfather), Andrew will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.
A private graveside service will be held in Holy Cross Cemetery, Callicoon, NY and a celebration of his life will be held at a future date in Charlottesville, VA.
